Are our courses nationally recognised?
We are an independent coffee academy offering some of the most up to date training in Melbourne but that also means our courses are not nationally recognised. We are determined to set the standard in the specialty coffee industry and that means we don’t adhere to the same standards as some Registered Training Organisations (RTO) that are nationally recognised. In our opinion, a lot of those standards are out of date - what matters in the coffee industry is the skills and experience you have, not a piece of paper. Coffee is constantly evolving and our approach is to stay relevant and provide the most quality-focused training on the market. Between our 3 barista trainers, we have over 50 years of experience working in some of the top cafes and roasteries in Australia and we genuinely want to share that knowledge and experience with our students.
How does Melbourne Coffee Academy compare to other barista training organisations?
We are very confident in offering the best barista training in Melbourne and even within the wider specialty coffee industry. What sets our training apart? We don’t just provide theory and practical experience, but for our more extensive courses like our Barista Apprenticeship and Barista Masterclass — we put students in a real-life cafe environment and expose them to the realities of working in a top, fast paced specialty coffee cafe in Melbourne. Often students will make over 200 cups of coffee within a 3 hour period — utilising different drink sizes and strengths, various alternative milks and jug sizes — all in a small team environment, while being coached and trained but our experienced barista trainers. This leads to confidence behind the coffee machine and is a proven pathway into the specialty coffee industry.
Check out our Student Spotlight Blog post to hear more about our past students who are now working as baristas or are have even opened their own cafes.
